Climate Change - the sequel...

Here are some more extracts from year ten's persuasive letters to the Prime Minister. They'd love a little feedback...

I am writing to you to inform you on a whole world crisis; global warming/climate change its not just about the ice-caps in the Antarctic melting down, if climate changes in Britain will be doomed !  It would warm up and more water would evaporate and cause more rain we have more of a chance stopping this catastrophe, if we take Action! Also we have examples of sea levels rising now for example the floods in Britain also when it rains canals rise. If this happens part of London would get wiped out by the sea if we don’t take action as a country we will be defenceless against the wild waves of the sea we could also be wiped out from humanity we would be defenceless against global warming/climate change and the rise of sea levels.

However, there is a solution to all these disastrous problems; we just need your help to solve them. We could try stopping it or slowing down the pace of it by cutting down how much we drive. If people used their car for a limited time a day and not go over that limit would help. Even walking more and longer distances can help the environment; it’s just the simple things we need to change that will have a massive effect on climate change. We could also try investing in urban public transport systems which are designed to minimise carbon emission and maximise access to jobs and services. It doesn’t take too much to do all this; just that everyone does there little bit each day.

You want to make a change, don’t you? Well make a change then. I’m writing to tell you we need to be more efficient with the fossil fuel we are using. You have children, you don’t want them growing up in a horrible world. No Polar Bears. No Penguins. You’re in charge of this country, take charge then. People listen to you, so if you say we need to change, people will.

A 4C warmer world is so different from the current one. We can stop climate change, from being catastrophic by acting upon it quickly. But something needs to be done and it needs to be done now. What you can do is let people know more about climate change and the problems it will cause for the world later on. I can’t stress how much needs to be done. Why wait until the damage is done? By then it will be too late.

You’re the one in power, so that means you’re the one who can make the biggest change in this country, by setting laws/rules which can decrease the amount of waste gasses which are released into our atmosphere. Instead of using the power stations which burn fossil fuels use renewable energy’s such as wind farms, tidal and wave energy. Also cars can be made to run on electricity instead of petrol/diesel, if you do make this change then you won’t just be saving yourself but you’ll be saving your precious country as well.

You’d be surprised what we’re doing to the world blindly, but soon enough it will come clear and all the tremendously awful predictions from the scientists will rise. We will soon regret that David Cameron was a massive help to this dishonour of our planet and people will soon start to put the blame on you.

Climate Change - letters to the PM

After studying the climate change texts in the Edexcel IGCSE anthology, year ten wrote letters to the Prime Minister exhorting him to take action. Here are a few highlights. Let them know what you think.

I know you have very likely heard all this before, but I kindly ask you to listen to it again. We all now global warming is a problem, with some places heating up or becoming colder, sea levels rising, and glaciers melting. This affects wildlife, and of course, people. Your people. Your people may be fine now, but if climate change does not subside, the future generations will have to suffer for your and our idiotic mistakes. The current severity of the situation is dire, and something must change, the matter cannot be ignored any longer or it may lead to catastrophe.
By Charlotte.

Do you ever wonder what is happening to our environment? The world is heating up as we speak and we cannot do anything about it without your help, and consent. The ice-caps are melting. The deserts are getting hotter. Storms are increasing, and I know why.

But as I say things aren’t going to change immediately but gradually if we all try together we can succeed. Do something different, actually make a change, make a difference to everyone’s life not just your own.

When your children become adults and are working, they may have to swim to their job. You alongside everyone in our country can make a change. Would you like to be the Prime Minister who changed this country or the Prime Minister who changed the ways of the world? We are the last generation that can change this catastrophic climate change. I’m not asking you to think economically, just realistically. This doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. We should work together, as a team.  We as a country can make a change and if we do it then other countries will do the same and join us to a greener World. There is all this talk about action.

I’m prepared to make a stand against global warming but I’m nothing but a mere teenage boy. I doubt many people would listen to me but you’re David Cameron. You are the Prime Minister; people would be convinced to join in with the struggle against global warming if they were preached by such a wise man like yourself.
by Cameron

Do you care about the world and the animals?

If you don’t then you sir are a selfish man and it will be your job to explain to the human population why the animals are dying out and why more people around the world are dying.
